Script (5) Whiteout
2011, HDV 3 minutes 30 seconds
The Script Series is a series of short films, showing the artist making words, relevant to the filmed activity or making reference to filmic terms. Shot where the artist works, they take the form of filmic exercises of studio activity. In the Script series we witness the construction of words, which are relevant to the operation of each particular short film. The series explores the textuality of the written word whilst considering issues pertaining to film’s specificity.
In Script (5) Whiteout, a winter scene is depicted as the artist walks from her studio to a snow covered site nearby. Recorded in slow motion, the artist writes with a stick in the snow the words ‘slow dissolve’. The scene dissolves to a micro close-up of the crystalline nature of the snow, as the words slowly disintegrate.
