“Within the exhibition A Fine Line works can be seen within all three gallery spaces which each contain a main projection alongside the more low key presentation of a related ‘footnote’ displayed on a nearby monitor. Taking the form of an explanatory dialogue, the footnote not only acts as an informant to the main piece as art but also more significantly to scientific enquiry. In this sense it’s perhaps these, with one metaphorical foot in either, which most tellingly occupy the territory somewhere in between the codes of art & science.
The work Paper exercises consists of an unedited conversational dialogue between the artist and collaborator astrophysicist Ian Elliot, as both participants illustrate the basis of the Theory of Relativity in a schematic drawing. The drawing itself is placed tightly within the camera’s frame as we see its development through time. The paper exercise makes no attempt to represent space in a pictorial way, but instead acts as a schematic diagram that aims to convey the possibilities of an event, occurring within different times in relation to variations of speed and motion…”
